May SEPTA Meeting Brings Awards Ceremony featuring APS Leaders, and Bonus Dyslexia Program

27 Apr By Maria Votsch Leave a Comment

Updated to reflect new location:  Thomas Jefferson Community Center!

Please join us at our next monthly Arlington Special Education PTA meeting on Thursday, May 11, for a very special evening at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center!  Beginning at 6 pm, refreshments will be served.  At 6:30, SEPTA will conduct a very brief business meeting, followed by a special ceremony featuring this year’s SEPTA award honorees and recipients.  Special guests Dr. Patrick K. Murphy, Superintendent, Arlington Public Schools, and Paul Jamelske, APS Director of Special Education, will co-present the awards.  Families, staff, and community members are cordially invited to join SEPTA as it recognizes educators, parents, programs, and students nominated by the SEPTA community for making a difference in the lives of students with special needs.

Immediately following the Awards Ceremony, from 7:30-9:30 pm, APS will offer a special program presented by Dr. Kelli Sandman-Hurley, titled Dyslexia:  Helping Families and School Staff Learn More.  This program is designed to help attendees understand the types of assessments appropriate for dyslexia, how to interpret assessment results, and what is included in an appropriate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or instructional program for students with dyslexia in both general and special education settings.  Note that registration for the Dyslexia program is required:  please register here to help APS ensure adequate seating and materials!

The details:
